If I were to commit to one word, it would need to reflect both my personal and professional lives and be a call towards growth. Surprisingly, this search did not take too long.
I selected "ACCEPTANCE". This does not mean "deal with it", or communicate the idea that many things causes are not worth fighting. No, wrapped in this one word are knowledge, self-awareness, wisdom, strength, and courage, and faith.
Be it an external situation, an emotion, or personality trait, acceptance demands that you know it well, understanding its purpose and power over you and others. In that knowledge, acceptance calls on you to know yourself, your role in the situation, abilities, purpose, power, and the effect you will have on others and yourself in acting. Acceptance requires wisdom to see the right course of action; to respond not to respond. Once that free choice is made, acceptance again requires that you act with courage and strength, trusting in God that what is good will result.
Serenity PrayerGod grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen.
